We Love You a Latte We would LOVE to learn more about coffee. We wrote a little post on tea a few weeks ago and we can't possibly do that without doing something similar for coffee! It's also the perfect way to start the new year because it just keeps getting more and more trendy. There are coffee shops everywhere. Oh and it also helps when you're back at school or work and getting up early after getting up late every day over Christmas ;) - Legend has it that that coffee was first discovered when a farmer noticed his goats going crazy after eating these beans. (You know… Like the ones on YouTube).
- Brazil is the biggest coffee producer in the world by far, followed by Vietnam.
- The worlds most expensive coffee is Kopi Luwak, otherwise known as weasel coffee. Weasels eat the fruit and the coffee bean is collected once it's passed through their digestive system (yes, they poo them out whole). Just remember to look for the real deal if you want to try it!
- Inspired by Kopi Luwak, you can now get coffee made using a similar process with elephants. Yum! (seriously though, apparently it's pretty good!)
 - Roasting affects the flavour and aroma of coffee, and can be done to different degrees. Coffee is almost always sold in roasted form, where the beans dry and expand to be the dark, light form that we're familiar with.
- Grinding and brewing is the final stage before you can enjoy coffee. It's yet another stage where a whole load of factors can affect the taste, including how fine the beans are ground, how hot the water is, how long it's brewed for, and for some even the water that's used is important!
- Coffee is good for you (in moderation). Don't go swigging it, but a little coffee in your diet can be healthy and is associated with a number of health benefits.
- BUT (there's always a but) try to take days off, and limit how much you drink per day! Being reliant on coffee isn't great, and try not to drink 100 cups a day… Apparently thats the lethal dose!
 - Optimal coffee drinking time is not when you first wake up. Leave it a few hours, then have your first cup to get the full caffeine benefits!
- BONUS: A cup of Starbucks appears in EVERY scene in fight club?! Is this true?!
We've done a LOT of coffee based recipes too. Whether it's the main event or just sneaks in to add a bit of depth, it's perfect for cooking with as well as enjoying as a hot drink. Here's a few of our faves: Until next time, love you a latte. #coffee #sorted food #sortedfood |
